TMJ DISORDER TREATMENT
Today, the problem of temporomandibular joint disorder is becoming more urgent.
Clicks, crunching in the joint, wedging of the jaw, feeling of fatigue of the muscles of the face reflect dysfunction (disorder of the function). In this case, there may be no organic lesions of the joint or disc, as, for example, with deforming arthrosis. These changes may appear later.
Patients often ask: if there was no injury, the teeth were treated in time then what has caused the joint dysfunction?
The joint, as a complex mechanism, has many parts in its composition: an articular head and its corresponding articular cavity, the articular disk is located between them, like an amortizing pad.
The joint capsule reliably covers the joint from all sides giving it stability. It is intertwined with muscles that move the lower jaw.
Disorder in any of the components leads to disruption of the entire joint.
The disturbance in any of the component parts results in the dysfunction of the whole joint.
For example, during the rapid growth of the skeleton in adolescents, muscles will reach their maximum strength only in a year and a half after the end of growth. As a result of rapid longitudinal growth of the lower jaw, the joint capsule and ligamentous apparatus are overstrained, which can lead to sprains and dislocation of the joint head.
Teething 8th teeth (wisdom teeth) can lead to a change in the position of the lower jaw, displacement of teeth. All the components of the joint experience tension, signs of dysfunction appear.
And compression and gnashing of teeth is a scourge of people living in conditions of accelerated pace of life and stress. The joint under bruxism also undergoes no physiological load.
Dysfunction has many other causes: erasure, destruction, tooth extraction, disproportionate development of the jaws, improper position of the teeth, and more.
How to deal with dysfunction and not to allow such threatening complications, as, for example, arthrosis?
First, we need to conduct a detailed survey and find out what structures and to what extent they have changed their work. In our Medical Center the treatment of dysfunction of the TMJ of the patient is carried out after a thorough complex diagnosis.
We investigate all the factors affecting the temporomandibular joint: the state of the muscles, the joint capsule, the disc, the mobility of the lower jaw, the kind of teeth closing, blocking contacts, and so on.
Such an integrated approach allows not only to identify and eliminate dysfunction, but also to design the dentition as harmoniously as possible. This is a guarantee that your teeth will serve you long and successfully!
